Dynasties aren’t built overnight. They are forged through years of commitment, sacrifice, and unwavering standards. This spring, the Lady Knights added another chapter to their remarkable story with a fifth consecutive state championship, the 13th in their history and most of any classification in the state of Washington.Â
The three day State Championships at Eisenhower High School had a combination of 93 degree heat, 30 mile per hour winds and a rain storm making all the competitions brutally challenging.
The Lady Knights were led by a dominating performance by senior Kim Beard. She not only won the shot put and discus by huge margins and placed 2nd in javelin, but she also threw personal records in all three events. In her final discuss throw, she threw 53 feet 5 inches to win the event by a sizable 35 feet. Kim Beard finishes her career in dominating fashion and will go down as one of the best King’s student-athletes of all-time.
Senior Lucy Mortimer also scored big for the team with third place finishes in the high jump and triple jump. Also placing for the Lady Knights were Ivy Stringham 100m & 200m, Alma Decker 3200m, Lina Pilat 300m hurdles, Nika Bokan pole vault and the 4×200 relay of Laila Christensen, Lina Pilat, Lauren Belden and Ivy Stringham and the 4×400 relay of Lina Pilat, Jemimah Asinobi, Lauren Belden and Ivy Stringham.
The boys’ team were led by senior Jeshua Singletary in long jump, 100m & 200m, Nahom Getachew in 800m, Angelo in Gasperetti shot put, Aidan Smith in high jump and Andrew Balzer in javelin. The 4×400 relay of Daniel Binkley, Nahom Getachew, Sam Richards and Jeshua Singletary also scored valuable points as the boys team placed 4th by .5 points.
The great senior leaders of both teams will be greatly missed next year.
