Cheer represents well at Nationals, celebrates their season

The Knights traveled to Anaheim to compete in a National tournament this past week. Coach Emilie gives the recap.

From Coach Emilie: “We had 4 great performances but not enough to move on to finals or place. They gave their all in very tough divisions. This is a very special team. The way they’ve bonded and lifted each other up is something I’ve never experienced. Couldn’t be more proud!”

Knights secure #1 seed headed to State

The Knights season has been setup towards a State playoff run from the end of the Championship game last March. An impressive regular season schedule was going to challenge the Knights in every way. And every step of the way they have risen to the challenge. An impressive 20-4 season including 10 wins vs State Tournament qualfied teams has set the Knights up for their ultimate goal.

But first would come the League and District Championship vs Bear Creek, who upset CPC to reach the Title game. Although some strong young talent, the Grizzlies were no match for the seasoned veterans of the Knights, as King’s lead 24-10 after 1 thanks to 10/20 shooting on mostly layups with 11 points in transition. It was all Knights as they cruised to a decisive 74-38 win. In her final game at Mike Martin Gym, Kaleo Anderson lead the Knights with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Kaitlin Cramer and Molly Kyler had 10 points, respectively, and Cam Pich had 8 off the bench for the Knights.

It was a wait-and-see approach as the seeding committee determined the 16 teams that qualified for State and where they would be placed. The Knights earned the #1 overall seed and will take on Lakeside (9 Mile) falls in their Opening Round game on Friday, Feb 27 at North Creek High School.

Knights lose tough one to Bear Creek, prepare for State

The gym was buzzing in advance of the 2nd Bear Creek vs King’s matchup of the night, this one on the boys side. The Knights came in as the favorites, having beat Bear Creek at their place the previous matchup. King’s got out to a 4-0 lead to start the game, but it was all Grizzlies from there. The Knights just could not get anything going offensively, and the Grizzlies made them pay with the 3 ball shooting 8/15 on the night. Drew Evans was a bright spot for the Knights, hitting 4 of 9 3’s to keep the Knights in the game and just down 6 at one point in the 3rd quarter. Zaphie Cooper contributed 12 of his own, Dozie Asinobi had 11 and 6 rebounds, but the Knights would ultimately fall 65-50.

A disappointing way to close out the league playoffs for sure, but big goals are still ahead for this Knights squad that has shown it can come back from adversity. The respect for our league was shown in the seeding committee, with the Grizzlies getting the #4 overall seed and the Knights earning the #6 seed, along with Overlake as the #11 seed.

Knights earning the #6 seed sets them up with a matchup with #3 seed Royal. It will be a battle of the Knights in Yakima on Saturday, with Royal coming in at an impressive 19-3 mark with 2 of 3 small margin losses vs #1 seed Zillah.
